So, please let me know if the plans changed drastically while I was gone, but here is a quick sketch of a floor-plan, with tentative spacing of the initial pose of the characters sans clap-lamp. I also annotated where the general striking of most props would be. So let me know if you have any changes, otherwise, I can get into more detailed environmental drawings.
Note about annotation: I put the character names in the boxes, so the names in boxes are where the respective lamps are.
Okay bye bye now,
Yasemin
Thanks for drawing the floor layout, Yasemen. You rock! It mostly looks really great, and I especially like the arrangement of chairs around the fireplace. It looks like a cozy place to live. That said, here are a few thoughts.
ReplyDeleteLAMP PLACEMENT
Ok, so on the one hand they're going to move as soon as the new lamp comes in, but on the other hand it's our first glimpse of the characters, so here are a couple thoughts about initial lamp placement.
• I think we’re cutting the two-headed lamp and possibly the lava lamp from the film? That would open up their slots on the back wall end tables.
• The placement of the octo lamp behind the door seems awkward, although I just remembered that we talked about having the octo lamp peer around the door, which might be what you had in mind. It just seemed odd to have the octo right next to the Tiffany where it's not lighting much, but then we are talking about a lady who treats lamps like cats.
• My first thought was to put the octo lamp where the two headed lamp is now.
• Actually, I changed my mind. Can we put the tiffany and the gentleman where the two-headed and lava lamp are now, so they’re established as a couple? Then the octo could stay behind the door to light the kitchen.
• The long neck seems kind of randomly placed, like maybe it needs to be leaning over a chair or the bed or something? It could be where the spider lamp is now and then move the spider lamp to next to the portmanteau.
Ha, that was confusing! I hope you are not confused forever. XD
SCENE SETTING/MISC
• Is the night light underneath the bed?
• Where does the window (or windows) go?
• I think we could use a couple more objects to indicate that we’re in the Arctic. That kind of thing can go on the portmanteau and maybe we can scatter around: Boots by door? Snow shoes? Huge pile of blankets? Canned food in kitchen, firewood by fire, inside activities like a radio, books. A sled, ha ha.
• Maybe there are drawers under the bed, where she stores her clothes.
STORY POINTS
• If the lamps end up pushing books off of something in an attempt to make noise, where should that happen? The books could be on the bed or an end table or it could be dishes on the counter if we want to make them shatter. Or we could add a dresser on the empty wall.
• We also need an electrical outlet, at least one on screen for the new guy to plug into. A good spot is probably on that empty wall.
Wooo moving along. It will be nice to have this nailed down for storyboards!
